Poject Details
The design of this vacation home celebrates the richness of wood while taking advantage of its natural setting—which includes views of the water and islands of the San Juan Islands—and its own forested site. Intended as a family retreat, the house blends traditional vacation home archetypes with a contemporary aesthetic. The large ceiling beams, recycled from an old sawmill in Oregon that was destined for demolition, are complete with rusty bolt holes. Most interior finishes are made with alder, an easily replenished, fast-growing tree.
